Our children in fur clothes

September 22, 2010 9:07:28 AM CDT

As my good friend, Sonya Fitzpatrick, likes to say, our dogs and cats are "our children in fur clothes", and really, this is so true! I just walked in from having been at the shop all day, and my five dogs are all vying for my time and attention, just like my five children used to do when they were small!

My sheltie, Gabe, (who my husband says reminds him of Lyle Lovett with his long, thin nose and pale blue eye.....other eye is brown), is trying to tell me SOMETHING by barking at me in short, staccato bursts....I think he wants either food, petting, a walk, bed....not sure what and am planning to ignore him for time being.

My other dogs are giving me peace for the moment, until I get up to go outside to find my big yellow cat, Kaiser, at which point they get all fired up again as they love to help "find" him somewhere in the dark yard.

Then, at last, we all make it to the bedroom-some slower than others (me), to fall into our favorite cushy sleeping spots i.e. THE bed. Well, I don't blame them for loving it, because it IS super comfy and soft. They appreciate that comfort just as much as my husband and I do, and that brings me to this......

during the last three weeks of October, if you donate $35 to one of three of Olivine's favorite animal charities, you will receive 20% off of everything STOREWIDE, including custom orders of bedding, curtains and furniture!!!!!!!!!!!! My Aussie Manager, Cathy, and I keep a record of everyone that donates, and you will get this percentage off of all your purchases FOR THE ENTIRE THREE WEEKS!!!!! It is a win-win for everyone, animals and people alike, and you will know that you are helping provide some comfort and happiness to some of the unfortunate animals waiting in cages and living on cement floors until their "Forever Person" walks into their lives.

So here is to seeing you at OLIVINE, and feel free to bring in your animal children with you... (we are OK with human children as well)!

One of coolest things about working at Olivine is getting to know our customers. Because invariably, they become our friends. And who doesn’t love it when friends stop by to visit. Of course, you can’t always get by the store, so we welcome you to check in from time to time with our blog. We’ll start some dialog, but you can, too. If you’d like to comment on anything, feel free to share your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you.
